At Ann Frank Memorial Park on Tuesday April 27th, the City of Boise were to hold a a community discussion surrounding houselessness that involved Boise Police Department’s Chief Lee. However, the event did not take place because we were there ready to demand answers for our many questions. & given what we know about houselessness and policing it has been unsettling to see and hear Boise Mayor McLean continue to misrepresent the wishes of this beloved community, arguably alienating her base. We all helped get Mayor McLean elected, & now we after a full year of protests in the largest uprising in global history McLean continues to ignore her promises.
Also, we demand answers for the murder of Thomas Andrew Bunde. We were denied footage upon request. The Mayor is disconnected and insists on leaving out the community. We put in a public records request and were denied footage. We will stay on top of this.
Lastly, we continued to be ignored by Mayor McLean who has allowed Chief Lee despite a well-documented history of attacking and criminalizing Black Lives Matter protestors while working with white militias to intimidate and suppress antifascists messaging. We seek to send a message to Mayor McLean that she cannot disconnect herself from the violence perpetuated on our community. We will hold her to account. Mayor McLean insists on criminalizing otherwise nonviolent behavior. Mayor McLean continues to ignore decades of evidence to support defunding the police. Not to mention, that police should not be responding to houselessness.
Apparently the event has been rescheduled to May 1st at 10am "Neighborhood Conversation: Addressing Houselessness in our Community" & according to the City of Boise’s website registration is required so please register ASAP.
